Was the recipient of the best radio-playwright award by All India Radio, 1956.

Best Playwright Award for his Janani Janmabhumi, Kakatiya Cultural Festival, Warangal, 1965.

Was chosen as the best chronicler of Gandhiji’s influence on regional Indian Literatures by the Gandhi Gyan Mandir, 1969.

Received the Pratibha Murthi award by the Telugu University for his play, PRAJANAYAKUDU PRAKASAM, 1990. by the Telugu University,2013.

Selected as the Best THEATRE PERSON Award by TANA (Telugu Association of North America), 1995.

Honoured by TANA for his over-all contribution to Folk Arts, 1997.

Rasanjali, an important Cultural Organization, celebrated a Three-Day Festival of Plays written by Prof. Sarma, and performed in his honour at Ravindra Bharathi, Hyderabad, November, 2010.

Dept. of Culture, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, Prasar Bharathi, Hyderabad and Rasa Ranjani, A well-known Theatre Organization conducted a Five-Day Theatre Festival, Celebrating his Amrutotsav at Ravindra Bharathi, Hyderabad, June 25-29, 2011.

Honoured by several Rangasthala Kalakarula Sanghams for his over-all contribution to Theatre (at Tenali, 2006; at Hyderabad, 2010; at Pithapuram, 2010; at Tirupati,2011; at Bellary, 2013).

Was honoured by the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, by bestowing on him the coveted Tagore Akademi Ratna Award (Tagore Akademi Fellowship) , 2012.

Was honoured by the Andhra Pradesh Government with the Prestigious N.T.R. Award at the Nandi Theatre Festival at Vizianagaram, 2013.

Best Literary Critic Award for Nataka Silpam by the Telugu University, 2013.

Gurajada Appa Rao Award by the Vizianagaram Gurajada Sahiti Samakhya, a consortium of 36 cultural organizations, Vizianagaram, 2013.
